New Coach

The University of Wisconsin Synchronized Skating Teams will have a new head coach for the 2009-10’ season.

Jenny McMahon, director of the Fond du Lac Blades Synchronized Skating Teams, will begin volunteering her time to the UW-Madison open collegiate and senior teams in early September. During this time she will continue to coach the Fond du Lac Blades.

Since stepping into the head coaching position in Fond du Lac, McMahon has worked with teams ranging from the beginner to junior levels. The club’s intermediate team won several national championships beginning in 2002 and the junior line, which competed from 2004-2006, earned Team USA status for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.

The United States Figure Skating Association recommended McMahon to the UW-Madison teams in August of 2009 after the club’s former coaches retired for personal reasons.

The UW-Madison synchronized skating teams will continue to act as their own entity and organization under the direction of McMahon.

For questions please contact Hannah Kasper, chair of the UW synchronized teams, at hkasper@wisc.edu

Season Recap

UWFSC kicked off the 2008-2009 season with a welcome skate for new skaters and returning skaters alike. The club had weekly Sunday open freestyles at the Shell for skaters to socialize with other club members while improving their skating skills.

The club has hosted several social events this year including a pumkin patch visit and carving party as well as a spaghetti dinner and a skate taping party. Skaters participated in a Secret Santa exchange at a holiday party after returning from winter break. The club also be had a spring formal at Uno's.

Fundraising activities began during the summer when a group of skaters volunteered to sell corn at the State Fair. This season started with club members volunteering to do Per-Mar at football games. This will continued the rest of the year with hockey and basketball games. Additionally, this year the club members monitored the Dipin' Dots and popcorn stands during hockey games.

UWFSC had an end of the year exhibition at the Shell featuring individual skaters and both synchronized skating teams.

UWFSC is hosted a Prospective Skater's Day featuring a team informational presentation, a campus tour, lunch, and ice time with the team.
