Team Description
This is the first year that the University of Wisconsin has had an individual collegiate team. Skaters on this team compete against other colleges and universities in our region at collegiate competitions as well as other U.S. Figure Skating competitions. The events held at collegiate competitions are ice dancing, team maneuvers, and long and short programs. Skaters who choose to compete in ice dancing will perform a solo dance based on the level they are at. Each skater may compete two different dances. Team maneuvers is an event where six different elements are combined for a total score. There are low, medium, and high team maneuvers at each competition and are based on the levels of the skaters. For example, high team maneuvers includes a double or single axle, double-double or triple-double combination, double lutz, combination spin, flying spin, and serpentine step sequence. At least three skaters are needed for each level of team maneuvers and each skater can perform up to two elements. Team maneuvers is a great event for those who do not like the spot light as your whole team is on the ice watching and cheering you on. Short and long programs are individual events with skaters competing at their respective levels from preliminary to senior. The final placement of each time is based on points. Points are earned from placing in the top four. The number of points distributed depends on the number of skaters entered in the event. For example, a skater will win more points when ten skaters are entered in an event than when three are.
